Fourth Annual Wakkerstroom Natural Fibre Handcraft Fair

(Link voor Nederlandse lezers)

Wakkerstroom is a lovely small and quiet village in Mpumalanga. Also well-known for many varieties of orchids growing in the wild and many, many species of birds.
But we went there to attend the Natural Fibre Handcraft Fair held in the NG Church Hall. Everything was very well organized and prepared by Fenella van Ryneveld and her team. The VLU (Vroue Landbou Unie) ladies manned the kitchen and restaurant. I particularly enjoyed the groups of women that had come together from as far as Johannesburg and Pretoria to have a weekend away. Altogether this fair was different from the ones I go to. So many different crafts were displayed, wool and alpaca from local flock, felt, handmade articles, ingeniously invented tools to use for combing, spinning and weaving wool. This fair was well attended. We thank all kind people that visited our tables and supported us so generously. Enjoy the articles you bought and enjoy making beautiful things with the embroideries. We love to have a picture of what you made - it will be published on our blog and will give us and all readers new ideas! Thank you!

We made a weekend-away from this opportunity and had a lovely stay at the Whistling Duck Guest House in Lueneburg.
